  9.  AB    STUDY OBJECTIVES: We chose to assess the prevalence and impact of MAC on
  10.        patients with AIDS attending the hospital. METHODS: Retrospectively we
  11.        identified 62 HIV patients with positive MAC cultures and reviewed their
  12.        hospital files. Our analysis included whether MAC was the AIDS defining
  13.        illness, the CD4 count, alkaline phosphatase and C-reactive protein
  14.        level at MAC diagnosis. We assessed the outcomes with no treatment and
  15.        with regimens with and without clarithromycin. Our results and
  16.        conclusions will be discussed.
